9 Months Old

My little Snuggle Bug, this week you turned 9 months old.  That means that you have officially been living out of my tummy longer than you lived in it.  How can this be!  I can't believe that you will be a year old in just 3 short months.   I have to admit though that this is the age where I think things really start to get fun.

AT 9 MONTHS OF AGE YOU:

-Weighed 16 lbs, 12 oz. and were 27 3/4 inches tall

-Take one nap in the morning and one in the afternoon.  Recently Mama has been cutting your AM naps a bit shorter and you have been sleeping for a few hours in the afternoon.  This makes me one happy Mama!!

-Have 2 bottom teeth.  While exploring these new teeth, you discovered just how fun it is to hang your tongue out of your mouth.  You do this all the time now.  It doesn't matter if you are being silly or really concentrating you like to stick your tongue out.

--Love to knock over stacks of blocks.  It may be your favorite game.

-Are clapping your hands and you think that you are pretty smart every time you do this.  You will have to thank your cousin Kai for teaching you this trick because after spending a few days watching him clap you did it yourself.  I think that you may be competitive.  :)

-Waved for the first time today.  For a few weeks we have been trying to get you to wave at Daddy when he goes to work, but haven't had any luck.  Today you saw yourself in the mirror, Mama waved to you and you decided to wave at yourself.  Very cute!  You then waved at your big sister.  You loved her reaction.

-Are not crawling YET, but I know it is just a matter of time.  You scoot around the floor on your bottom and are lunging for items.   You are very stealthy.  One minute you are in one spot and the next time I look over you have somehow gotten to a new spot.  As soon as you realize that crawling will get you places quicker we will be in trouble.

-Are eating many new things.  You have mastered baby food and are rapidly mastering many different types of table food.  Your pincer grasp is great so you are able to pick up almost anything at this stage, but you do still like some foods in your mesh feeder.  Some of your favorite foods are:  Cheerios, frozen peas and corn, frozen grapes, apple pieces, pears, cooked carrots, asparagus, banana bread.  Pretty much anything you can eat on your own is your new favorite.

-Have such a sense of humor.  You find so many things funny and you LOVE to giggle.  You know when you are being sneaky and love to try to steal your sister's Pooh Bear away from her when she isn't paying attention.

Oh how I love you!

As Requested

These aren't the best pics, but here is what M's hair looks like now.  She doesn't like me to do her hair or to hold still much for pics so this is the best I could do.

Front (please ignore how dirty her face is...we were playing outside :))

First Haircut

The past few weeks I have been talking to M about maybe getting her hair trimmed.  She kept telling me, "No!  It will hurt."  We've had many talks about how it won't hurt.  Well, today the girls ended up having to go with me to my hair appointment for a bit and on the way M decided that she was going to get her hair cut too.  So...we went with it.  She was very serious about her grown-up haircut.  She was okay with the scissors and even the hair dryer, but she did NOT want her hair curled.  Luckily, her hair has some natural curl.

PIGTAILS!!!

And after about 30 seconds she was happy again.
She even left them alone until Mama took them out.

The Things I've Learned in the ED

I've decided that Aaron should really be documenting all the "wise" things that he has learned at work so today will be the first of, I'm sure, many posts.  Pay attention...he's learned some things that may come in handy for you.  :)

You would be amazed at all the home remedies that people come up with.  I had a gentleman explain this well thought out treatment to me the other night:

Doc:  "So what happened to the ankle"

Pt:  "Well, ya know,  I was walking down the street and musta stepped in a hole and dun twisted it"

Doc:  "Alright, where does it hurt?"

Pt:  "All up in here on the side, ya know." (points to entire side of foot and ankle and leg with waving hand motions)

Doc: (as he's feeling the foot and ankle to find where it hurts)  "OK, and what have you done for it at home?"

Pt:  "Well my sister was a cheerleader back in school, ya know, so she knows all about hurting your ankle and stuff...  So she told me what ya do is clean out the toilet real well, then stick your foot down inside and flush the thing.  Ya know like those baths those football guys take when they get hurt?  So I stuck my foot down in there and flushed it a whole bunch a times....  It kinda helped."

Doc:  "I hope you took a shower after this" (as he immediately goes to the sink to wash his hands, regretting not putting on gloves when he walked into the room...)

So all this time you had two or three perfectly good whirlpool baths in your home and never even knew it....

Conversations With My 3 Year Old...

Tonight M and I snuggled up to read her stories before bed and she elbowed me in the stomach and said:

M:  I'm going to squish the baby.
Me:  I don't have a baby in my tummy anymore.
M:  Why not?
Me:  Because she got big enough to come out.  You don't really want her in my tummy anymore do you?
M:  No.  Well, I'm going to squish the baby in MY tummy.
Me (laughing):  You don't have a baby in there.
M:  Why not?
Me:  Your tummy isn't big enough for a baby and you are not old enough to have a baby in there.
M (very seriously):  I have to be three before I can be old enough.
Me:   Ummm....no.  You need to be as old as Mommy.
M:  Oh!  That's a lot of naps.
Me:  Yep.  You will have to take a lot of naps before you will be as old as Mommy.

I LOVE HER (and her 3 year old logic)!!!!
